September is Suicide Prevention Month and there is no better time to talk about Seniors, Mental Health & Suicide Prevention. The pandemic has exacerbated loneliness, isolation, financial troubles and pain for many, especially in the senior and elderly population. Just being aware and there for your loved ones can prevent a suicide attempt. It takes only a few minutes to let someone know you are there if they need anything or that they are on your mind.
Medicare does cover some screenings, outpatient treatment, inpatient treatment and prescription medication to diagnose and treat mental health conditions. Please check out the link below to see Medicare’s Mental Health Benefits Guide.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A universal dialing code was launched in July 2022. Dialing 9-8-8 connects people in crisis directly to the Suicide Crisis Lifeline 24/7.
